World Alzheimer's month 2021

September 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign led by Alzheimer’s International to raise awareness and challenge stigma. Last year at least 20 million people worldwide took part in advocacy, fundraising and information events.

The challenge this year is to beat this number.

Did you know, the global pandemic has affected the dementia community even more:

• Over 25% of deaths from COVID 19 were people living with dementia.
• Many people living with dementia have experienced cognitive deterioration from lack of social engagement due to social isolation,
shielding, distancing and lack of social services
 • Many carers and people living with dementia have seen the onset of depression and anxiety as a consequence of social distancing
and lack of respite and care support

Now more than ever we need everyone to mobilise and make sure the world does not forget dementia and Alzheimer’s.

The world needs to KNOW about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

How can you #KnowDementia #KnowAlzheimers throughout World Alzheimer’s month? Scroll down to see how you can get involved.

Become a Dementia Friend

Dementia Friends is a one hour interactive educational session where you can learn about Dementia and how you can help support those living with dementia. By becoming a dementia friend you are not only helping to raise awareness but you are also contributing to with the challenge against stigma and also taking a step towards helping your community.

It doesn’t cost anything to become a dementia friend, the sessions are free of charge. We just ask that as a dementia friend you commit to one action to help – even if that is just being more aware.
