Thanks to our colleagues at the Alzheimer’s Society for posting this. Its hard to say what the true impact of COVID-19 has been on the people living of Jersey. What we do know, because we see it, is that people, especially carers, are exhausted, confused and worried about what next. Dementia Jersey continues to urge the Government of Jersey to listen to people’s experience, talk to us and those affected to learn and put effective and person centred plans in place to ensure everyone is supported in the future. #learningiskey #dementia
Over a quarter of those who have died with coronavirus during this pandemic had dementia – making it the most common pre-existing condition for deaths.
‘Unexplained excess’ deaths from dementia were 83% higher in England in April, and 54% higher in Wales, with nearly 10,000 deaths in total.
As lockdown begins to lift and the true extent of its knock-on effect to the health and wellbeing of people with dementia becomes evident, it’s never been more important to ensure no-one faces this crisis alone.
