Super Sal

Our wonderful super supporter Sally Minty-Gravett is braving the channel swim once more to help raise valuable funds and support for both Dementia Jersey and the Jersey Lifeboat Association.

Sally became involved in our charity back in 2012 when the activity Splashchat was set up; a fantastic initiative to help people living with Dementia get in the water and have a swim.

Sally works alongside our staff and the occupational therapists to provide a safe setting for our members to enjoy the water; an activity which is very popular with our members.

This will be Sally’s “6th decade Solo Channel swim” from Dover to Calais, in memory of her husband Charlie.

Both Sally and Charlie have not only supported our charity but have also supported the long-distance swimming community in Jersey for many years.

Commenting on her involvement with our charity and upcoming swim, Sally explains;

“I have been involved with Splashchat since we started in 2012.  I have loved watching it grow and been so amazed at the positive results it has been having on all our clients over the years, The charity were very kind and let my late Husband “Charlie” join in the swimming part during 2019 – as he was only comfortable swimming under my watchful eye.

This is the main reason I wanted to raise funds for this project, and look forward to being involved once again – in the future

Regarding my forthcoming Channel swim – it has been extremely challenging training for this – it was postponed from 2020 and this year has been just so cold to train. I only hope we have warmer weather moving forward now so the I can just get the job done – finally, this is now in Charlie’s memory

I want to do him proud – as he always was”

Sally has already smashed her target of £10,000 reaching over £11K in sponsorship to date – wow!

You can still sponsor Sally ahead of her swim taking place between 30 June and 10 July (subject to sea and weather conditions).
